Kids can climb aboard a fire truck, peek inside a police cruiser and quiz the firefighters and officers who keep Overland Park safe at Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead on Aug. 22, 2026.

Admission is free.

Safety Day runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Farmstead, which is operated by the city of Overland Park. The event is sponsored by Children's Mercy, according to the city's announcement.

The Overland Park Fire Department and Overland Park Police Department will be on hand alongside other community safety organizations. Stations will cover bike safety, water safety and poison control. Children's Mercy said on Facebook that families can also explore an ambulance and take advantage of a drive-thru child car seat check.

The city noted that while emergency vehicles are expected to attend, crews may need to leave if called to respond to an active emergency.

What else is happening at the Farmstead

The Farmstead's regular programming runs alongside Safety Day. Families can feed baby goats, visit the one-room schoolhouse and pedal around the tractor track.
