Prairie Village will close out its 75th anniversary year with a free party at Meadowbrook Park on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The lawn opens at 4:30 p.m. with food trucks, yard games, bubbles and photo spots, according to the city's event announcement. Superstar Mafia, a six-piece Kansas City-area party band, takes the stage at 5:30 p.m. A drone show caps the evening at dusk, approximately 7:30 p.m.
Admission is free.
Dinner and dessert will be available for purchase from the food trucks. The city recommends bringing a blanket or lawn chair and a refillable water bottle.
A 75-year milestone
Developer J.C. Nichols platted Prairie Village in 1941. The National Association of Home Builders named it the best planned community in America in 1949, and the city incorporated in 1951. Today it is home to about 23,000 residents, according to the 2020 census.
The anniversary celebration has stretched across multiple events this year, including a 5K run/walk, a parade and after-party, a '50s day at the pool, and a movie night in Harmon Park. The Oct. 10 party is the finale.
Photos from the anniversary year are available on the city's Flickr page. No account is needed to view them.
