Pizza Tascio, the New York-style pizza chain with a shop at 6705 W. 119th St. in Overland Park, is days away from opening its third Johnson County location at 5422 Johnson Drive in Mission.

The restaurant aims to open by the end of August, pending some final touches, according to the Johnson County Post.

Co-owner Eli Lombardino told the Johnson County Post in a June 18 article that Mission-area customers had been driving to the chain's Waldo and 39th Street locations in Kansas City, Missouri, and that the company had been looking to fill that geographic gap. Speaking again on Aug. 18, Lombardino said the expansion still energizes the team.

"Having people ask, 'When are you guys coming to my neighborhood?', that's fun," Lombardino said. "And then being able to actually open up in their neighborhood, it's a very satisfying loop of being able to bring that to fruition."

The Mission storefront sits near Sully's Pub and WingStand by Jefferson's. It will be smaller than the chain's other locations, with some bench seating but a focus on pickup, carry-out and to-go orders. Lombardino said in the June 18 interview that the Mission spot may offer extended late-night hours to serve the nearby Sully's crowd.

Pizza Tascio sells 18-inch pies and slices. The menu runs from cheese and pepperoni to signature options like the White Tascio (mozzarella, ricotta, Italian sausage, broccoli and roasted garlic olive oil) and the Red Tascio, the chain's best seller at $29. The Red Tascio features cup pepperoni, ricotta, fresh basil and Mike's Hot Honey, according to a Kansas City Star report. A daily in-store deal offers two slices and a drink for $10.

Eli, Caleb and Gian Lombardino run the company alongside business partner Sean Davis. They took over operations in November 2023 from founder Erik Borger, who started Pizza Tascio in St. Joseph, Missouri, in the spring of 2021. The chain now has five Missouri locations and, once Mission opens, three in Johnson County.

The Overland Park location at La Paloma Plaza opened in September 2022 in a former Dunkin' Donuts space next to Louie's Wine Dive and Kitchen 119. An Olathe location opened Aug. 18 at 1485 E. 151st St.

No specific opening date for the Mission location has been announced beyond the end of August.
