Prairie Village's 20th annual State of the Arts reception will be held Sept. 30, two weeks later than planned because of ongoing renovations at the city's municipal complex.
The Prairie Village Arts Council competition showcases 2D and 3D artworks at the R.G. Endres Gallery inside City Hall, 7700 Mission Road. The arts council's website had listed the reception for Sept. 16. The city announced the change on Sept. 8, citing the status of building work at the site.
The renovations are part of a $30 million municipal complex project. Prairie Village broke ground July 10 on a new city hall at 7820 Mission Road, just south of the current building.
The Johnson County Post reported the project, $27 million of it funded through bonds, will eventually convert the existing 7700 Mission Road facility into an expanded police department and municipal court headquarters. City staff remain in the current building while the new one goes up. The full project is expected to wrap up in 2028.
The reception begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. The city described the evening as a celebration of invited artists featuring hors d'oeuvres, beverages, a juror talk and cash prizes. An RSVP is requested through the arts council's website at artspv.org.
The competition is a regional juried show for 2D and 3D artworks, according to the arts listing site ArtsKCGo. Last year's 19th annual reception drew 78 RSVPs.
The names of this year's juror and award-winning artists have not been announced publicly.
The accompanying exhibition is already open. It runs through Nov. 13 at the R.G. Endres Gallery. Gallery hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except federal holidays. Admission is free.
