A fire heavily damaged a two-story home in Overland Park's Amber Meadows neighborhood Tuesday morning, and a woman was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.

Firefighters from Overland Park and Olathe were called to 11508 W. 127th Place at 9:18 a.m. Sept. 1, according to the Johnson County Post. The address is in the Amber Meadows neighborhood, southeast of 127th Street and Quivira Road, near 127th Place and Bond.

Overland Park Fire Department spokesperson Jason Rhodes said crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the house, according to the Johnson County Post's account of the department's news release. The resident was safely outside when firefighters got there.

Crews first attacked the fire from the exterior to knock down the bulk of the flames. Additional firefighters then entered the home to search for anyone inside and fight the fire from within.

"Fire crews encountered fire on the second floor and in the attic of the home," Rhodes said.

The department called for reinforcements. More crews from both Overland Park and Olathe responded to assist.

Rhodes said access inside the home was complicated by numerous contents in the home. The conditions slowed firefighters as they worked through the structure. It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Johnson County Med-Act paramedics treated the woman for minor smoke inhalation at the scene. Her identity was not released.

The Overland Park Fire Department said on X shortly after the fire that the occupant got out safely before crews arrived. The department's initial post reported no injuries, though the later news release confirmed the smoke inhalation treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the Overland Park Fire Department. No timeline for the investigation's findings has been announced.
