The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens will host about 20 breweries on Saturday, Oct. 17, when Botanical Brewfest returns for an afternoon of craft beer sampling.
The annual fundraiser, presented by the Arts & Recreation Foundation of Overland Park with proceeds benefiting Friends of the Arboretum, runs from 2 to 5 p.m. at the city-operated gardens.
This year's lineup places greater emphasis on local microbreweries, City Lifestyle reporter Lauren Powers wrote in a preview of the event. Among the anticipated participants are Big Grove Brewery, which opened a 13,000-square-foot taproom in Prairie Village in May; KC Bier Co., which opened a second location in Lenexa on July 28; and Vine Street Brewing, Missouri's first Black-owned brewery, based in Kansas City's 18th & Vine Jazz District.
Beyond beer, the event will offer cocktails and mocktails from regional vendors. Don Rudy's Quesabirrias KC and K&C Concessions will sell food on-site, though those purchases are not included in the ticket price.
Friends of the Arboretum, a fundraising arm of the Arts & Recreation Foundation of Overland Park, directs proceeds toward educational programs, conservation efforts and capital improvements at the Arboretum. Members receive a discount on admission.
The event is open only to guests 21 and older. IDs will be checked at the entrance. The event is weather permitting; organizers may delay or cancel for severe conditions, and tickets are nonrefundable.
Parking is free. Ridesharing is strongly encouraged, and guests who need to leave vehicles overnight can do so without being towed.
