Shawnee Mission East's girls varsity volleyball team erased an early deficit and beat Olathe North 3-1 on Thursday, Sept. 17, the night after a straight-set loss.

The Lancers trailed in the first set 22-19 before clawing back to tie at 24-24. Sophomore Alaina Green then stepped to the service line and delivered an ace to give SM East the edge. The Lancers closed it out 26-24.

Olathe North answered in the second set, grabbing a 12-11 lead and pulling away for a 25-21 win to even the match.

SM East took control from there.

Senior Ava Murray led the third set with the most kills as the Lancers rolled 25-16. In the fourth, SM East held the lead throughout and won 25-19 after an Olathe North player shanked the ball following a Murray serve.

The win came one day after SM East fell to Blue Valley North 2-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Blue Valley Northwest, The Harbinger reported. The Mustangs took both sets 25-18 and 25-17.

The Lancers next host Lawrence High on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
