An electrical panel fire at a two-story apartment building near 64th Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park forced residents out of nine units Thursday afternoon, Sept. 17.

No one was injured, the Overland Park Fire Department said.

Firefighters were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. and found light smoke coming from the building. Residents were already evacuating. Crews knocked down a small fire in the building's exterior electrical panel, KCTV5 reported. FOX4 reported that fire was also found inside the walls before being extinguished.

Both the Overland Park Fire Department and Consolidated Fire District #2 responded to the scene, according to FOX4.

Power had to be shut off to the entire building, leaving residents in nine units unable to return to their homes. The American Red Cross was called in to help those displaced. The apartment complex has not been identified in reports.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
