A three-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 435 in Leawood sent a 19-year-old driver to the hospital with minor injuries Sept. 10.

Leawood police, firefighters and Johnson County Med-Act paramedics responded to the eastbound lanes between Lee Boulevard and State Line Road at 1:17 p.m., the Johnson County Post reported. Three vehicles were damaged. No other injuries were reported.

Leawood Police Captain Jason Ahring said officers are examining whether reckless driving may have played a role. "Since the crash remains under investigation, that information cannot be confirmed," Ahring told the Post.

Radio traffic indicated the teen driver had been weaving through highway traffic before rear-ending another vehicle, according to the Post. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Lane closures backed traffic up nearly two and a half miles. All lanes reopened by 2:15 p.m.

The driver has not been named or charged as of Sept. 10.
