Judge Gyllenborg faces retention vote in Johnson County

Johnson County voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to retain Christina Dunn Gyllenborg as a Kansas District Court judge in the 10th Judicial District, Division 9.

Gyllenborg has served on the bench since 2012. In a retention election, voters cast a simple yes-or-no vote on whether to keep a sitting judge. No opposing candidate appears on the ballot.

Experience and public service

Governor Sam Brownback appointed Gyllenborg to the District Court on July 23, 2012, according to the Johnson County District Court. She was retained Nov. 4, 2014, with 71.3 percent of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.

Before joining the bench, Gyllenborg worked as an assistant district attorney in Johnson County from 1994 to 2004. She then entered private practice at Gyllenborg & Dunn from 2004 to 2012.

Earlier in her career, she served as a congressional intern in the office of Sen. Robert J. Dole in 1991. She also worked as a law student intern prosecutor at Johnson County from 1992 to 1994.

Gyllenborg's professional memberships include the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Johnson County Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, according to the Johnson County District Court. She served as secretary-treasurer of the Johnson County Bar Association's board of directors and on its criminal law bench/bar committee. She also served as a board of trustees treasurer for the Johnson County Bar Foundation.

From 2000 to 2004, Gyllenborg served as an instructor at the Johnson County Regional Police Academy. She is also a member of Ladies of Charity of Metropolitan Kansas City.
