A Johnson County Community College police officer has been charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy in connection with an alleged 2024 sexual assault in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office announced the charges against Rodrigo A. Sanchez-Flores, 27, on Sept. 23. Prosecutor Melesa Johnson said Sanchez-Flores, an officer with the JCCC Police Department, faces the charges in connection with an alleged assault near a Westport club, KSHB 41 reported.
According to court documents cited by Fox 4, Kansas City police responded to a disturbance call just before 6 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2024. Officers located a woman who reported she had been sexually assaulted by a man in his vehicle.
The woman told detectives she did not remember leaving the club with Sanchez-Flores and later woke up in his vehicle, court records state. Witness accounts and surveillance footage showed the victim was too intoxicated to consent.
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner exam identified the presence of male DNA. A DNA analysis found "very strong support" that Sanchez-Flores was the contributor, according to court documents cited by KSHB 41.
Detectives also recovered 11 videos and four images from Sanchez-Flores' cellphone, according to a probable cause statement cited by KMBC. One video allegedly shows a man and a woman having sexual intercourse.
Sanchez-Flores made his initial appearance Wednesday, Sept. 23.
A judge set his bond at $100,000, cash only.
Johnson County Community College, located on College Boulevard in Overland Park, had not responded to requests for comment from multiple news outlets as of Thursday. Sanchez-Flores' current employment status with the college's police department is unknown. KCTV5 reported it had reached out to the JCCC Police Department to clarify his employment status but had not received a response.
Charges are allegations. Sanchez-Flores is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
No next court date has been publicly announced. Sanchez-Flores had not entered a plea as of his Sept. 24 initial appearance.
