Flower Tea, the locally owned boba tea shop at Stanley Station in southern Overland Park, has shut its doors after roughly two years with no timeline for reopening.

Signage on the shop's door at 7699 W. 151st St. states the business is closed "indefinitely," the Johnson County Post reported Aug. 25. The owners did not respond to the Post's inquiries about whether the closure is temporary or permanent.

The shop opened in fall 2024 in the Stanley Station shopping center, located just off U.S. Highway 69 and 151st Street. It was Flower Tea's only storefront. The space previously housed SaBells Boutique.

Flower Tea specialized in Chinese-style boba teas, offering "cream snow" varieties made with cream and milk alongside fruity smoothie-style drinks. It operated near Dinozaur and Valor Wellness and Aesthetics in the center.

Stanley Station's only boba shop is now dark, but another locally owned tea shop plans to open in southern Overland Park by summer 2027.

Bruu Cafe targets summer 2027 at Bluhawk

Kansas City-based Bruu Cafe plans to open a location at the Bluhawk development at U.S. 69 and 159th Street, roughly eight miles south of Stanley Station, as part of Bluhawk's next phase of retail expansion. The shop is targeting a summer 2027 opening, pending construction, according to the Johnson County Post.

Owner Bay Vanithbuncha, an Overland Park resident, launched Bruu Cafe's flagship location at the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, around 2020. Customers can customize sweetness, boba color and ice level, and the shop has been known for making fresh boba every four hours, according to a Kansas City Magazine profile published near the Plaza opening.

No information is available about what will happen to the Flower Tea space at Stanley Station or whether a new tenant has been identified for the storefront.
