Dr. Anne Kastelic, an eight-year veteran of Blue Valley Southwest High School, took over as head principal of the Overland Park school for the 2026-2027 school year.

Kastelic spent four years as assistant principal before the promotion, which followed the departure of Tyler Alexander. Alexander served five years as principal at Blue Valley Southwest before moving to lead Blue Valley Northwest for the 2026-2027 school year, according to BVNWnews.

For the roughly 1,050 students at the Blue Valley Schools (USD 229) campus, the transition keeps a familiar face in charge.

"There's a learning curve with being new and not knowing exactly what's coming at you. So that part is new," Kastelic told the BVSW News student newspaper on Sept. 10. "But it's in the same building, same people, same kids, same community."

Kastelic said the school's Timberwolf identity runs deep. She described Blue Valley Southwest as feeling like "a small town in itself" and pointed to the school's state championships and academic record. She called the Timberwolf name "a uniting thing" and "a sense of pride."

The new principal said she sees the role as a chance to lead a community she already knows well rather than start fresh somewhere else.

Filling Kastelic's former role as assistant principal of curriculum and instruction is Dr. Cory Cox. Cox brings six years of administrative experience and previously worked at Blue Valley North High School.

Cox told BVSW News he is focused on building relationships with students and staff at his new school. He said celebrating successes in the classroom and in students' personal lives is what drives him.

"Getting to meet new people and new students, new staff members and start building new relationships" is what excites him most about the move, Cox said.

Both administrators began the school year in their new roles in August. No district announcement has been made about additional leadership changes at Blue Valley Southwest.
